The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given the green signal for the Indian cricket team to play in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The reports have surfaced the media which has potentially brought an end to all speculations surrounding India’s participation in the ICC mega event this year.
Since the ICC opted for a change in the revenue model, the BCCI was left disappointed as the new regulations will decrease the shares by almost half of its previous value. From the USD 570 million, the shares in the part of the BCCI has come down to USD 293 million. During the ICC meeting, the majority of the members vote for the new model and that left the BCCI isolated at the meeting.
After the meeting, the board refused to announce the squad and deliberately missed the deadline to submit the team India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. But the committee of administrators(CoA) insisted BCCI to immediately announce the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy.
“The Board unanimously authorized the acting secretary of the BCCI to continue negotiations with the ICC in the best interest of the BCCI while keeping its legal options open. The BCCI SGM unanimously decided that the Indian cricket team will participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The All-India Senior Selection Meeting will be held tomorrow, May 8, in New Delhi to pick the team,” the BCCI said in a statement
