On 16 October, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the FIFA U-17 World Cup together with ‘Feeding India‘, a non-profitable organisation, celebrated World Food Day with an aim to minimise food waste and eradicate the problem related to famine and malnutrition in the country.
On the day, they organised a very special event for 70 girls at a ‘Feeding India’ shelter home in Delhi. The kids were not aware of the program and as the official mascot of FIFA U-17 WC ‘Kheleo’ walked into the shelter with Feeding India volunteers, they were shocked at once. The food were distributed among the kids and at the end ‘Kheleo’ gifted all the 70 girls a football each.
‘Feeding India’ volunteers, are also part of the team of volunteers for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. They are collecting the leftover food at all the six venues of FIFA U-17 WC and donate to shelter homes in the respective cities. The food is initially checked for its quality before being transported in special containers to beneficiaries in the homes.
World food day is celebrated on 16 October across the globe in order to eradicate the hunger and also as an awareness to wastage of food. At one side of the world, people especially children still dies due to lack for food and malnutrition.
