Just three days away from the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Official Poster was unvield by FIFA in the Russian capital, Moscow. The legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin as been selected as the central figure by the famous Russian artist Igor Gurovich.
Igor Gurovich, the chief designer of the poster said he was inspired by posters from the movement of Constructivism of the Soviet Union. He was born in 1967. He was a member of the Russian Academy of Graphic Design. He also worked on various projects in his career, including the uniform for the Russia team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the branding of the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament (1997-1999) and the re branding of the Moscow International Film Festival.
Yashin is the only goalkeeper in the history of football to win the Ballon d’Or. He played in four FIFA World Cups – 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970. He is dressed in his traditional outfit of black shirt and shorts, knee brace and his famous cap in the poster.
Lev Yashin was chosen as the accurate symbol for Russian football, said Vitaly Mutko, The Chairman of the Russia 2018 Local Organising Committee. He also said “I’m sure that this poster will become one of the most memorable symbols of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and both fans and participants will approve it.” FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura. said “ Russia’s artistic and football heritage is clearly reflected in The Official Poster of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.”
