Former Hyderabad Ranji Trophy captain Doctor M.V. Sridhar(51), who recently resigned as BCCI’s general manager of cricket operations, passed away in Hyderabad on Monday morning due to a massive heart attack.
Sridhar was one of the pillars of Hyderabad cricket during the 1990′s and was also one of their better captains. With Mohammed Azharuddin busy on national duty for most of the 90′s, it was Sridhar and Abdul Azeem, who shouldered the burden of Hyderabad batting during that phase.
Right-hand batsman Sridhar had 21 first-class centuries in his career. He was one of three Hyderabad batsmen to score a first-class triple-century, among VVS Laxman and Abdul Azeem. His knock of 366 against Andhra in 1994 is the third-highest individual score in the Ranji Trophy, behind Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s 443 not out and Sanjay Manjrekar’s 377.
He also served as interim coach for Hyderabad side in the 2010-11 season, taking over towards the end of the season after Venkatapathi Raju resigned. Sridhar had been the tournament director when India hosted the World T20 in 2016.
Sridhar’s primary reason for resigning from the post of BCCI general manager is due to allegations of financial unsuitability in Hyderabad Cricket Association against him.
The Indian Cricket expressed their shock at sudden demise of their former GM and condoles for his demise.
Doc Sridhar was someone you could call anytime. I did. Courteous & firm. And a fine batsman. "Let's do it our Hyderabadi way" he would say
