Hong Kong Open: Wade Ormsby’s first European Tour title in 264 attempts

The 34 year old Australian Ormsby finally achieved his first ever European tour title in 264th attempt. He carded a final round of 68 at Fanling to finish 11-under-par. He was just a shot ahead of Rafa Cabrera Bello (Spain),  Alexander Bjork ( Sweden),Julian Suri (America) and Paul Peterson (America). This was Ormsby’s second win of his professional career.

After his victory he said “It means a lot to me. In Europe I’ve played a lot of golf everywhere, but it’s pretty cool to get a win this late in your career.”

The tournament was looking to be heading to the play-off, but Ormsby putted-three of the 18th to overcome Cabrera Bello who needed  to par the same hole to force extra holes. Orsby however put his second shot into the bunker which results in a bogey that gave him his maiden European Tour tittle.

The Hong Kong Golf Club championship ended in a tense situation, where Ormsby and Cabrera-Bello was having a tight shoulder to shoulder at competition. Unfortunately and also with his luck Ormsby was able to score a point  more than Cabrera and the match ended without taking tournament to a play-off. In his entire career Ormsby had won two championships, This was one of it.
