Ashish Nehra will be playing his last game against New Zealand in the first of a three-match T20I series on Wednesday at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.Ashish Nehra made his international debut in 1999 when he played Sri Lanka in a Test match and then made his ODI debut in 2001 against Zimbabwe. Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium will be a fitting farewell for him as it is his home ground.
“It’s always good to retire when people are asking ‘Why’ rather than ‘Why Not?’ I always wanted to retire on a high. Can’t get bigger than playing in Delhi and retiring there. It is a way forward and there is no bigger tournament coming,” he said.
It has been 18 years since his debut to International cricket. He informed that he will retiring from T20I and IPL as well unlike some players who play in IPL even after their retirement. “I was always mentally strong. Whenever I was training, I was training to play for India. I am that sort of a person that I train day in, day out just to play for India. I know that I am retiring in November, there are five months and I can easily play the IPL or I could have played another year of international cricket also. But that’s my decision, once I leave, I will leave. I won’t even play the IPL” he added.
India has never defeated New Zealand in home or away matches in T20I.The 5 times they faced each other India has suffer defeat, Delhi T20I will be a good opportunity to turn the tables. They faced them last at the ICC World T20 in 2016.So winning against New Zealand is a matter for pride for India and also a parting gift for the Left arm pacer.
