Virat Kohli adds another ton to his list and become fastest batsman to score 9000 in ODIs

Virat Kohli’s knock (113 off 106) on Sunday made him the fastest batsman to score 9,000 runs in ODIs during the  third ODI game against New Zealand in Kanpur on Sunday. Kohli has become the 19th batsman to reach the 9000-run mark and the fastest one beating AB de Villiers.

He is second after Sachin Tendulkar (49) in the all-time list of most ODI centuries.

He went on to score his 32nd ODI century off 96 balls in the 37th over and eventually got out on 113 after a innings of nine fours and one six.

Kohli is the sixth Indian to cross the mark. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had reached the 9,000-run milestone last year. Other Indians who have done so are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Earlier in the series, the Indian skipper had surpassed Australian great Ricky Ponting in the list of most ODI hundreds with his 31st century.

Since his debut, Kohli has never averaged below 40 in a calendar year in ODIs and has scored 1,347 runs at an average of 74.83 this year. Last year, he averaged 92.37 in ODIs.

Kohli is also one century short of 50 international hundreds in all formats. Currently, he is has 49 international centuries, 32 in ODIs and 17 in Tests.

Kohli’s (113) and Rohith Sharma’s (147) knock helped power India to a mammoth total of 337 for six in the third and final ODI against New Zealand at Kanpur. The series is tied at 1-1.
