Pakistan’s left-arm pacerWahab Riaz has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2017 due to an ankle injury. The 31-year-old bowler suffered the injury during Pakistan’s tournament opener against India in Birmingham on Sunday (June 4)
Riaz stuck with an ankle injury in the 46th over of the Indian innings and was seen on the ground struggling with severe pain. Riaz, who had conceded 87 runs off 8.4 overs, left the field immediately and didn’t come out to bat either.
A scanning reports has confirmed that he suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an eversion injury mechanism. It will take at least two weeks to recover from this injury, ruling him out from the rest of the tournament, a media release stated.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has sent an official request to the ICC Technical Committee for a replacement.
