Chelsea legend Didier Drogba announced that he is set to retire at the end of next season. The 39 year old Ivorian is playing for Phoenix Rising in the USA’s second tier. He announced his international football retirement on 8th August 2014 with a record of 63 goals in 104 appearances.

Drogba told RMC Sport that “I think next year will be my last season,”

“You have to stop at some point, Its good to play but at 39 it pulls me back. I need time for my other projects”

In 2004 Drogba joins Chelsea and established himself as one of the top strikers in the world, his skills and ability to score  set him apart from his rivals.The Ivorian had scored 164 goals in 381 appearances for Chelsea including a the last minute crucial goal and the winning penalty as Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012. He has been voted the club’s greatest ever player by fans. He ended his second spell at Chelsea in the summer of 2015, and  moved to the Atlantic to play for Montreal Impact.

He was also a part of Galatasaray as they lifted the Super Lig title in 2013. Before moving to MLS with Montreal Impact he spend his time in China. At present he plays for Phoenix’s star and also he is one of the owner of the club.

The Ivorian is likely to spend his post-retirement time focusing on the Didier Drogba Foundation, which helps to improve lives in his hometown through social works such as building hospitals etc.
