The four time champions Italy sacked their coach Gian Piero Ventura after they failed to qualify for the world cup 2018 in Russia. Italy are out of the world cup for the first time since 1958. The Italian Football Federation fired him on Wednesday.

Antonio Conte was replaced by Ventura  in June 2016, and Italian football federation president Carlo Tavecchio described him as  “master of football”. During his appointment he was given a two year deal, till the Finals of the world cup 2018. Ventura as the Italian coach has a record of 10 wins, four draws and three defeats in 17 matches.

Ventura has paid the price for the 1-0 defeat to Sweden in the world cup playoff, which knocked the Italians out of the world cup in Russia. Ventura refused to sign his resignation immediately after the defeat and he says he need some time to speak with the Italian Federation President.

After Italy’s World Cup hopes were ended Ventura said “I can only apologise to the Italians, not for the will or effort but for the result, which as I know is the main thing”. He also Said that “I had only two losses in two years”

Ventura had his contract terminated after the meeting with The Italian Football Federation on Wednesday, and now Italy is in search for a new boss.
