WTA finals is the fifth biggest event in a season only behind the Grand Slams,to compete for this title the top eight in the world  who are fit to play are eligible.The tournament is played in a round-robin format in two groups of four. The winners and runners-up of each group advance to the semifinals. Doubles teams participate in a single elimination draw.

France’s Caroline Garcia turned the table against the world number 6 Caroline Wozniacki.,Garcia couldn’t even win a game in the first set as Wozniacki won the set 0-6.The World number 8 didn’t lose her composure and recovered in the second set 6-3.Down 3-5 in the third set, Garcia won four straight games, including fighting off three break points to hold 6-5  for the victory against Wozniacki.

Elina Svitolina beat top seed Halep 6-3 6-4 to ensure Garcia won the Red Group.She reached the WTA Finals last four at the expense of world number one Simona Halep.

Wozniacki, who had already qualified from the Red Group after two wins, had lost just four games in five sets of tennis after taking the opener 6-0 against Garcia.It was Frenchwoman’s first victory from three attempts against Wozniacki in the pair’s first clash since 2015.

“In the second set, I told myself to just try to play with greater intensity with my legs. I found some rhythm. It was up and down but I finished well” Garcia said.

The semi-final line-up on Saturday, Garcia will play Venus Williams in the semi-finals while Karolina Pliskova plays Wozniacki.

Karolina Pliskova will replace Halep as number one by winning the title.
